WHY IS GOD SILENT IN MY GRIEF?

0

Five years ago, a man shared his heartbreaking story with me. While at work, he received a devastating phone call: his pregnant wife of five months had been killed by a hit-and-run truck.

In that moment, his world collapsed. His mind broke, and life was never the same again.

Grief has a way of reshaping us. It leaves invisible scars and often shakes even the strongest believer. Many ask the painful question: “Where is God in my grief? Why does He stay silent?”

This is not a new struggle.

David cried, “Why, Lord, do you stand far off? Why do you hide yourself in times of trouble?” (Psalm 10:1). Job, after losing his children and possessions, sat in ashes and wept (Job 1:20–22). Even Jesus, on the cross, cried, “My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?” (Matthew 27:46).

Grief makes us doubt. It makes us question God’s love. It can feel like abandonment.

But silence does not mean absence. Scripture reminds us:

“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” (Psalm 34:18) “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” (Hebrews 13:5) “He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain.” (Revelation 21:4)

Satan seeks to use grief to destroy faith. Yet Jesus assures us: “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” (John 10:10).

If you’re grieving today—if you’re asking, “Why me?”—don’t push God away. Let Him into your pain. He is not distant. He weeps with you, He walks with you, and He will carry you through the valley of sorrow.
