Former Ghanaian Finance Minister Entered U.S. in May 2025 on Visitor’s Visa – ICE
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has confirmed that former Ghanaian Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta overstayed his permitted period of stay in the United States after entering the country on a visitor’s visa.
According to an ICE spokesperson, Ofori-Atta entered the United States on May 28, 2025, with authorization to remain in the country until November 27, 2025. However, immigration records indicate that he remained in the U.S. beyond the approved date, thereby overstaying his visa.
“Ken Ofori-Atta entered the United States on May 28, 2025, on a visitor’s visa with an expiration date of Nov. 27, 2025. Ofori-Atta overstayed his permitted admission,” the ICE spokesperson stated.
The disclosure has sparked renewed public attention in Ghana, particularly due to Ofori-Atta’s high-profile role as Ghana’s former Finance Minister and his involvement in ongoing political and economic discussions.

While ICE did not disclose whether enforcement or removal proceedings have been initiated, immigration experts note that overstaying a visitor’s visa constitutes a violation of U.S. immigration law and may carry serious legal consequences, depending on duration and circumstances.
As of now, no official response has been issued by Ken Ofori-Atta or his legal representatives regarding the ICE statement.
